I've been studying Uechi-ryu for 6 months with David Mott in Toronto Canada. I really like the style, I especially like how it's not all flashy like Tae-kwon do , rather a more direct method a fighting. I've only learned the first 3 katas so far and what I like about them is that the movements in them are practical, they have a purpose and if you were in a real fighting situation they would work.
Anyway just want to get some feedback and see what others think of the style beginner or master, tell me what you think.

I've been learning Uechi for almost ten years and I agree that it is a very practical style for myself. I had learned Shotokan prior to that and found that Uechi is a more "flowing" style that taught me to side-step attacks as opposed to Shotokan's "meet the attack head-on" approach. And I find that when I go back to work out with my old Shotokan class and spar with them, the two different styles are even more apparent when I use the 'Wa-uke' block and redirect their attacks and then proceed to attack from their exposed flanks. But I think that any style will have its pros and cons and it just depends on the practitioner; if something works for you, then go with it. And remember to have fun!
