Shukokai's double hip punch

Post by ferrarra pan »

First off,my name is Billy. This is my first post here. I am a refugee from James Sass's board. This is a very good board,I wish I had discoverd it earlier.

My question: Does anyone know a site that discribes the double hip punch or double hip movement preferably with a photo(s) breakdown of said movement?

I have searched a long time. Have found bits and pieces, but no photos showing this technique.

Has ther ever ben a book published in the U.S. that illistrates this move?

I have used the search function on this board to no avail.

Would appreciat all help in this matter.

Thank you!

Billy!

Sorry, I am not sure what technique or principle you are asking about.

Can you give a little more description of it?

I am not a Shukokai practitioner so I am not sure a Kata reference would help me but may be there is someone reading the forum it might help.

Are you familiar at all with Uechi Kata that you might be able to refer to a similar move?

It is a method they use to generate
power in strikes.

I cant expand much on it as I dont know it.

It has somthing to do with cocking the hips prior to a strike, and Ive probably just . Tommy Morris,Peter Constredine are Shukokai guys that used this principal.

Thank you!

The only “double hip” type of action I am familiar with is used by Erle Montaigue and you can get his tapes on “Fa-Jing” for detailed explanations.

I have also seen a similar movement in some Kobudo strikes used by Kinjo Sensei.

While I am not familiar with them I think some Uechi guys use this as well, so it certainly is not exclusive to Mr. Montaigue and might be similar to what you are looking for.

This site:

http://www.moontagu.com/

Has all his stuff and there is a video clip on Fa-Jing.

I don’t know if that is what you are looking for but if you watch his body there is a double hip action that he uses.

Ferrara,
Sounds a lot like what we refer to as "TC".
Do a search for TC and you should see many topics on Van Sensei's mindset forum.
It is how Vans students generate power in our Uechi Kata.
Good Luck.

Do a little searching in the Shorin Ryu area, There you will find a lot said about hip rocking and cocking in generating power in striking. When I studied Shorin ryu I found the principals of unloading and body recoiling very similar to what some Okinawan Uechi ryu teachers have been doing.
