We have been doing what our sensei calls the "hojoundo bunkai" also for as long as I can remember at our dojo. Not only is this a drill that starts out as the basics directly from the Okinawan hojoundo we also have a secondary phase with finishing moves ( counters, locks, takedowns etc) added to ...

How many have students who train just to train with no belt or inclination of ever getting a belt or rank? How many of you have a majority of students who prefer not to test because they ...

Yes I do. Can you see the chaos at a tournament where everyone competes in the same divisions.
2) Why (if you care to share)?

lock and load
Do a little searching in the Shorin Ryu area, There you will find a lot said about hip rocking and cocking in generating power in striking. When I studied Shorin ryu I found the principals of unloading and body recoiling very similar to what some Okinawan Uechi ryu teachers have been doing.

slapper or slapee
I have never been slapped for real, never gave anyone reason to do such a thing. I can say that I have never had to slap anyone for any reason other than in training. We have however in self defense training practiced using a slap across the face at half speed as a distracting devise to set up a ...
