Ref: Body type

Alethia, if U are conserned about body type and Uechi, think no more on the subject as Uechi (in my ever soo humble opinion lol) is universal. It works well for 5'6", 160lbs Sensei Spoon and big guys like D Pasquarelli. (Hi Dave) I studied with both as a teen when we had small women in the class who ...

a couple months ago a few kids played the game in a tree on their way home from school. One of those kids lost. The other kids had to explain what happened to the police and the poor kids greiving parents. This is happening all over the place. Here in Georgia. I read about one in Ohio, I think it ...

I left my last dojo because all the sensei did was spar and also for monetary reasons. Not that there is anything wrong with sparring or working sparring drills, but I wanted more of a ballance with kata practice. Even if I had the money, I still would have left that dojo in search for another. But ...

Not all that responsible

They might have blacked out QuanticO, but I googled a facility which should have been blacked out for much higher security reasons and it is shown in detail. Way too much detail. A near perfect terrorist target. I would be negligent in stating what, where or even how I know of this facility, and I'm ...

1. my four favorite food groups, in order:
ice cream

chocolate fits under medication as it stimulates the production of seratonin. But, I can't decide if hostess cup cakes (a definate weekness of mine) fit under cake or chocolate.
2. Riding my horse on a warm day ...

Fighting is a natural animalistic instinct that "modern societies" have deemed "bad bahavior." I doubt that when the species evolved sexual relationships were about attraction, common interests and personality as much as they were about breeding and survival of the tribe. So, it would make sense ...

Not that I think there really are any "secrets" hidden away in the kata, nor that the teachers of old would have secrets to hide, but if there were any secrets, this is what I think it would be:

As every karateka is different, so is the kata. Just as every attacker is different, so is the ...

I think the point is that the kata are not only some generic physical movements set in a sequence to provide exercise for the body, but also exercise for the mind. Visualizing your attacker, your block, counter, etc. No doubt, the physical benefits of kata practice can be great when done thought and ...

Like everything else, its different for everybody. A friend of mine at work likes to workout early in the morning. That, for me, is the worst time. I get the best and most effective work outs in the early afternoon, between 1 and 3. (luckily I have a job that allows this.) I'm sure there are other ...

I wholeheartedly agree with Bill. Breaking boards has absolutely nothing to do with Martial arts or self defense.

I very goofy 80's movie said it best:
Daniel San, "How many boards can U break?"
Mr. Miyagi, "Don't know. Never been attacked by tree."
That's right The Karate Kid.

An exercise I find very helpfull for hams and lower back is walking lunges. Its pretty much a total body workout with dumb bells and helps tremendously for the entire leg. knees, hips and ankle included.

Another muscle group instructors should pay attention to for their student's sake is the ...

I love a good debate

As I'm sure all of U have noticed.

Wasn't the original question about under who's providence does marriage belong? True, the definition of marriage varies between religions. Certainly it varies between sects who fall under the broader label of a religion. While the official Mormon stance is ...
