Oh ye of little faith and no team loyalty... And to the Yankees fans who think they are somehow entitled.
From 3 games behind in post season play to 3 and 3, leading to a final seventh game.
It's never been done before.

at Yankee stadium,
against the New York Yankees,
and by a cripple!
Schilling delivers a masterful performance on a dislocated ankle tendon. Less than a week ago, his ankle was soaked with blood while being hammered on the mound. And tonight he friggin shut the Yankees down. One run in seven beautiful innings.
Babe who?
It doesn't matter now. The Red Sox already have beaten the Yankees 14 games to 11 so far this year. They did it with endurance. They did it with power. They did it with patience. They did it with persistence. And tonight, they did it with heart. No matter what the results of the final game, Boston is the better team. Period. End of story.
The rest is for fun. The networks get all the baseball money that their hearts desire, and the fans get to see the best rivalry in baseball. And we all know where the hearts of the nation will be tomorrow.
Way to go Kurt!

The Red Sox led 2-0 before the Yankees even batted when Ortiz (who else?) slammed a two-run homer to right off starter Kevin Brown, giving him three for the series and 11 RBI. They led 6-0 when Johnny Damon, who struggled so much the first six games, hit a grand slam off reliever Javier Vazquez. They extended the lead to 8-1 when Damon crushed a second homer into the upper deck in the fourth inning.
There were no sutures necessary but Derek Lowe, who helped save the Red Sox season with his Game 4 start, held the Yankees to one run in six innings on two days' rest. Brown, meanwhile, failed New York yet again by retiring only four batters before leaving for a scheduled pay-per-view bout with the clubhouse plumbing system. Vazquez, the other big arm acquired during the winter, fared little better, allowing the grand slam to Damon on his first pitch and walking five batters in two innings.
And as for Alex Rodriguez, the $252 million superstar acquired in the winter's biggest trade and the focal point of much of the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry this year? He went hitless in four at-bats and didn't get the ball out of the infield.
Apparently, George Steinbrenner didn't spent enough money on this team.
The game got so out of hand that chants of "Let's Go Red Sox'' drowned out the Yankees fans during the late innings. Or perhaps those were just the cheers echoing in from the Boston bars.

Somehow, I can't see my Richmond employer being as sympathetic to my drinking any number of beers, staying up till 1:00am, and showing up to work mid-to-late morning tomorrow as employers in Beantown would be...maybe my wife and I should have stayed in Boston. :)

One of my favorite moments was at the end of game 5, with David Ortiz chanting "I'm a baaaad man! just like Cassius Clay did when he beat Sonny Liston. Funny as hell.

-When the last out was made, Joe Buck's tone & inflection were like he was asking his coworkers if they wanted to go for coffee. FOX clearly wanted the Yankees to win. Why? The underdog is such a more compelling story. Not to mention the fact that NO ONE outside the 212 area code wanted the Yankees to win.
-I can't get enough of staying awake and hearing analysts on ESPN call this "the biggest collapse in sports history". Whether you call it the greatest comeback or biggest collapse, it's two sides of the same coin. Not even the allegedly cursed Sox have coughed up a 3-0 game lead in a best-of-seven series in the postseason. FOX had some camera shots of Yankees GM Brian Cashman looking dismayed during and after the game; it's a shame that FOX's cameras apparently couldn't locate Steinbrenner.

Congratulations! That was truly amazing. My hats off to them. SO much so that I will root for them in the series. No, I am not becoming a Redsox fan. Maybe next year George (Steinbrenner) will listen when the NY world tells him PITCHING!!! WE NEED PITCHING!. Most fans were stunned when we got A Rod instead of replacing Petitte and Clemens.

Being from NC originally, last years superbowl was interesting... Pats & Panthers. I called my bro-in-law, who has Panthers season tix and suggested a friendly bet ala who'd buy the southern-style BBQ... Just collected a couple of weeks ago. I gotta hand it to my bro, he went all out and with a bunch of his friends threw a full-fledged pig roast with all the fixin's! YUM!
Back to beesbol... There ain't no mo curse! But...
There's still the NL Champs to contend with. Either way it should be a great series. As Bill mentioned, it's kinda hard to bet against Rocket Roger to win his games. I'm just glad Rog has the call for tonights game. And I hope the Sox bull-pen is being pampered, pampered, pampered to get as much rest as possible between now and Saturday night!

A fair weather fan if ever there was one, completely based on appearances. Last night FOX showed him letting cameras in his room so they could see him watching the game. But of course that was AFTER they had basically won the game.

Wait, so you're criticizing Kerry for letting the press in at the wrong time? What's so strange about that? Is this is evidence that he doesn't really care at all? I know if I was running for office, and felt strongly about a sports team, I wouldn't want the press there ruining my enjoyment of the game.
