Show me where Gichin funakoshi the first teacher of Shotokan did in fighting and realisitc applications look at what his top student Nakayama did, show me where he does realistic applications.

I practice RBSD now.

The stuff you are talking about which is extrapalated from kata is ok But Funakoshi and Nakayama never praticed that that is shotokan.

And for the guy who siad i learned straw man stuff i trained under first generation Sensei thats what they learned and taught so you are agreeing with me?

You didnt say who you trained in shotokan under?

I'll try this a second time.

kyushoguy (a.k.a. tc)

Do you have a name? Please share.

Read the thread, and you'll see my exposure to Shotokan. It does however go deeper than just the strict confines of that style. More later when we are properly introduced.

Not sure which stuff you're talking about being extrapolated from kata, but if it's the throws and torite escapes then those come right from Funakoshi and you can see him doing them in his book Karate Jutsu. BTW So far they've all worked just fine for me.
As far as what Funakoshi practiced it wasn't what we know as Shotokan. He did Okinawan karate and not JKA Shotokan or Shotokai, the two main offshoots of his teachings. Check out his kata and that of his offshoots to see the differences.
As far as a fighting art, someone liked what Funakoshi was doing enough to think of his karate as a fighting art.

What makes your RBSD reality based? Where, what and how do you practice?

Who says that the first generation Sensei practiced Funakoshi's karate? Neither JKA or Shotokai looks like Okinawan karate and supposedly a lot of what Funakoshi taught was replaced.

I train under a fellow who studied under Ohshima and who has a bit of experience teaching reality based arts.
I was dreaming of the past...
