Some notes about this that may make it worth a rental:

I am amused that Shang Tsung will be playing Heihachi. Bonus for getting the guy based on Craig Marduk to play Craig Marduk

Taking them seriously. Japan (along with South Korea and a few other countries) take video games much more seriously than we do. The mainstream thinks of them as stuff for kids and immature young men. So that's the audience that's targeted by those movies, for the most part. Once in a while you get something decent, usually not.

Also, video games are still light on story compared to novels, with a few exceptions. Something like Uncharted 2 could make a good movie, because it's already half-movie anyway. Most games, including the biggest hits have precious little in the way of real story. That's not necessarily a criticism, since a game can have no story and be great, but it does mean that you won't find much of interest when you just take the narrative by itself.

Could it also be a disconnect with those on top in Hollywood?I am m not the only guy in my age group who plays video games, almost every college boy plays games. Not to mention the youth as well.

Uncharted 2 and a few others.

Yep, lots of games without storyline, like a lot of sports games.
