Ben

He's the man!
Which one, Kerry in the left side of the pic or the other JFK? How much more Massa-friggin-chusetts can youi get by sailing off Cape Code with the Kennedys?

As far as Kerrys Sox comments go, I think it's typical New England Yankee dry humor. I know a lot of people here in Roankoke VA dont 'Get' my brand of humor sometimes.. or at least until they know me better. New England humor is a lot like Old England humor.. very dry and subtle.(of course all of this is just one person's opinion :) maybee some other yankess could confirm or deny my observation.

Gene, Hope you feel better soon. Those virus's are @ss kickers.

I said man, Ben, and not men. There's only one man in that picture; the other is a wannabe.

This goes to mindset, Ben. Hint at defeat or weakness, and you make it a self-fulfilling prophecy.

It also goes to intelligence. Any statistician knows that when you filp a coin 99 times and it comes out heads 99 times, the chance of it being a head on the next flip is still 50/50.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Ruth is dead and Bucky Dent is probably suffering from arthritis.

These are two brand new teams. Head to head - this year - is the best way to judge their future performance. I know whom I'm putting my money on.

And even if they weren't favored, they'd still get my support 100%. There's no room for wussy fans on my bench. And if I were Francona, any player that starts with the "down in the dumps" looks gets benched. Give me the rookie who is too "ignorant" to be afraid any day of the week.

The Snopes posting, unconfirmed by any official source or any research, is still a load of horsesh!t.

The Monster seats are far from "the last row at the
top of the stadium". They are among the coolest seats in Major League baseball. Who wouldn't want to be there when David Ortiz jacks one to win a game in extra innings? 8)

"What a way to honor our military."

Damn straight it was.
Pumyea was first told he could wear civilian clothes, which he noted would have made squatting behind home plate a bit easier, but at the Red Sox' urging he wore his military uniform.
And getting to meet your state's Senator, and the legendary John Glenn? Pretty neat if you ask me.

And you can pick out the other factual inaccuracies as well. It's a shame that the Red Sox do something nice for the hometown fans and the local folks serving in the military, and the right wing liars get a hold of it....

Sensei Mike,

Yeah, but you ought to be impressed I remembered that replacing Buckner in the late innings was an option! I wonder if Bill G. remembers that? And I wonder how many of the infamous happenings in Red Sox history Bill can name....

The lamentable fact is that the Yankees have earned it more than the Bosox throughout major league history...lots of those times at the direct expense of the Sox. That is the history that Kerry is referring to.

It isn't my job to do your own research for you, Bill. Prove it yourself.

Too bad you used such an easily disprovable Internet posting. Shame on you.

Rich, the men under Kerry's command, to a man, commend him for his bravery. The men commanding him commended him for his bravery. The Green Beret whose life he saved commend him for his bravery. A recent review by the Navy shows no reason to question any of his decorations.

Those other Swift Boat skippers were not under Kerry's command. But their assertions regarding his wartime service were full of lies, distortions and mistruths, mostly because they are pissed at Kerry's testimony to Congress.

That's how I explain it.

I stand by my criticism of Kerry first for standing by the Bosox when they are doing well, and then calling Bosox fans dreamers. He's a fair-weathered fan. Kerry has a habit of backing down when the going gets tough.

And you continue to spew meaningless labels, which is fine. Again, not very Kerry-like. I thought you admired the man...

So you think I'm a Bosox virgin, eh? How many spring vacations have you spent in Winter Haven, Florida? How close have you gotten to the team members on a daily basis?

My dad was a sox fan since a kid when he spent his summers at Gardner Lake, CN and had nothing to do but listen to games on the radio. We listened to the Hartford, CN AM radio station every night there was a game on - in Hampton, VA. Then he got the sattelite dish when I went off to college, and watched them on the NESN.

My dad managed to get a press pass from the local radio station (WVEC) and so worked his way into the locker rooms and was able to do interviews. And I got to go along as a teenage kid.

I got to see "The Impossible Dream" team of 1967 up close and personal. We have pictures and photographs of many of them. Yastrzemski's autograph was the hardest to get. He wasn't a very fan-friendly player. There were the Conigliaros, Petrocelli, Scott, etc., etc. My second oldest sister has a picture standing with Cy Young award winning pitcher Jim Longborg. So close that they look like Barbie and Ken. (My sister was/is that good looking. She was Miss Longwood two years in a row.)

What, were you in diapers then?

Remember Pete Runnels? I do.

Remember Ted Williams? I do.

Sorry, Gene, the pissing contest does you no good.
The lamentable fact is that the Yankees have earned it more than the Bosox throughout major league history...lots of those times at the direct expense of the Sox. That is the history that Kerry is referring to.
Forget Kerry and his loser attitude. Last time I checked, Boston's playing the 2004 Yankees on Tuesday. Last time I checked, they won the head-to-head series this year.

Losers lament the irrelevant past. Winners make their futures. Why not root for a winner, like this years' Bosox?

Of course you can continue to whine, and make Scotty chuckle...

Bill,

Sounds like your dad was quite a fan, and you a "used-to-be" fan. But we up here, probably Kerry too, are diehards. That means year in and year out. Getting an autograph or a picture because you were tied to your daddy's hip as a kid, doesn't make you a fan now. Yes Bill, just like a politician, what have you done for us lately?????? I suppose a good President Bush answer here is needed curtesy of the first debate..."uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh." ;-)

Always a fan, Mike, always a fan. I just gave you a trip back in history to
give you whipper snappers an idea of the breadth of the experience. I've
enjoyed every win, and endured the losses. It's still great entertainment,
and every team is a new team. And I don't hang my head like a wuss.

I still follow the Bosox transplants as well, such as Rocket Roger himself.

Could you possibly edit your Bush-ism? It's screwing up the whole thread.
We get the picture. And if you don't fix it, I'm going to pull rank and ask
Panther to bench you...

Thanks.

Sorry Bill,

I have no access to edit the post. Sorry for the screw up, especially on such a skillfully worded response by our president.

I think you may have misunderstood my post--it was meant as a dig at the Yankees and their fans. I am a transplanted Bostonian and longtime Sox fan.

Also, I always enjoy the irony when those on the left make the obligatory Bush/Hitler references, given that Hitler was the head of the National Socialist German Workers' Party. Which of our two parties here in America has more socialist tendencies?

It's cool; you are family (like everyone here).

I too was chuckling at the invectives, Doug. And yes, the irony did not escape me. You know you hit a sore spot when they start cursing at you, and pulling the Hitler card. We won't pour any more salt on the wounds... ;)

By the way, folks, this is the kind of blathering idiocy I am talking about.

Pursuit of unhappiness
Boston more roadkill than rival for N.Y.

Bob Markon apparently has already coronated the AL champion. No need to show up, Mr. Torre. Just pick up your check at Mr. Steinbrenner's office.

He talks about such non-rivalries as U.Va. vs. Clemson. Yes, Clemson had a streak. But last time I checked (last Thursday I believe), U.Va. crushed Clemson 30 to 10. Roadkill?

Meanwhile...
The Red Sox were 11-8 vs. New York during the season. The Betting Commissioners in Las Vegas, not exactly a crowd of raving sentimentalists, have established the Sox as the favorites for this year's ALCS, which begins tonight in Yankee Stadium.
Beep beep my a$$, Bob. You are so going to eat those words.

Prepare the humble pie, Scotty. And make sure it's a flavor you like. ;)

So what you're saying is that if the Red Sox were like coins their chances might improve to 50/50? :P

Seriously though, I don't believe in no curses, but I believe in the power of self-hypnosis, especially in sports where people tend to be highly superstitious.

As for Kerry's statement, it's a pretty big stretch to drag any significance into it I think.

I guess it's a matter of perspective, Justin. If you're a Kerry fan and you are ambivalent about the Red Sox, you shrug. If you have character issues with Kerry (no where near as many as I have with Edwards, BTW), and you are the terminal optimist that I am, you see weakness in the comment.

Tonight showed what the Bosox are made of. Bad outing by Shilling, and they still scared the pee out of an initially confident and taunting New York crowd.

I like that. Let THEM worry... Mussina is their only sure starter.
